The article says it was a pricing issue but visibility was probably a larger factor (speculation). Agents pay for and have access to the MLS which is the primary listing source of homes.
That said, there are options. For example, there are agency listings – these listings employ an agent to list your home on the MLS and market it. However, if you bring a buyer through no action of the agent, you do not have an obligation to use said agent.
